I had a couple friends tell me about this blog at http://www.kellyskornerblog.com/ having a Show Us Where You Live Friday: Kitchen Edition and about all the great kitchens linked to it showing off their own kitchens. I was most defiantly interested in checking it out because this last week I had started brain storming on what I should do with my kitchen. My kitchen is the plainest section of my house which is crazy because it is my favorite part of my house and where I find myself most often. I love to cook and I love to entertain and this is where it all happens. I have been stumped on what to do with it. I do not have very much wall space which I was used to having in my old house. Anyway I decided I would share my kitchen since I have enjoyed looking through so many of the other kitchens and have really gotten some great ideas from them!!
So welcome to my kitchen!
This is my breakfast area. I love my table because it is so special. My father in law made it! He is very talented. In the back you can see I have a little desk area. When we first moved in I didn't know what to do with it. Eventually I broke down and set up one of our computers in it. And I have to say I love it now. My girls like playing on the computer and this is a great place to have it where I can see exactly what they are doing.
I have been working on ideas on doing window treatments over here in the breakfast area but have had problems because the right one is a door. So they can't be anything that will keep the door from being usable. I have finally came up with a couple ideas that might work. I think this will be a good way to help bring some color and style to my kitchen.
I really loved looking at every ones cabinets. My husband and I have been wanting to paint our cabinets and have been thinking on doing a two tone. Now I have a lot of examples to look at!
I like the way my countertops have a step up where I can see into the living room but from the living room it is harder to see what is going on in the kitchen.
I always have a cookbook propped up in my kitchen. It is usually whichever one I used last so it changes. The white plate is really fun. Unfortunately right now I am not really showing that. I haven't had time lately to do anything with it. I bought it at a Southern Living Party. I like to weave different color ribbon along the outside determined by whatever event is going on or holiday. You can also write on it. Holiday messages, scripture, or whatever else comes to mind. I also have a stand for it where it lays flat and I usually serve a cake or some type of dessert on it decorated with ribbon.
My fridge is my fav. It used to drive me crazy if there was anything on my fridge, even a magnet. I wanted it totally clean looking. But with kiddos around I have gotten WAY over it and LOVE the way they stick things all over it. It always gives me a smile when I look at it!
So here is my kitchen. Hopefully soon I will be able to share how I have decided to decorate it and make it more me!!
Thanks for sharing your kitchen, it's beautifuL! I'm exactly the same about my fridge and I don't have kids yet so I'm still not over it. LoL! Mine is stainless steel so I can't stick anything on the front of it anyways.
